Travel Resources

Welcome to Kate’s Travel Toolkit!

I’ve traveled quite a bit, both for fun and while working remotely, and I’ve picked up some awesome tips and tools along the way. Here are the resources that have made all the difference, whether you’re traveling for pleasure or setting up a mobile office. Theyโ€™ve helped me travel smarter, and I’m excited to share them with you!

Finding Flights

  • Google Flights: I’ll use sites like Skyscanner and Kayak in the research phase of my flight search but I ultimately always book on Google Flights. It’s a great tool for comparing flight options across multiple airlines. Its flexible date feature helps find the best fares.
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card: This is hands down my favorite credit card as a traveler (if you don’t want to break the bank in yearly fees). You’ll earn great points benefits on your everyday purchases, offer 1:1 points transfer to travel partners, no foreign transaction fees, and include travel insurance when you book travel using the card.

Finding Accommodation

  • Booking.com: I love searching Booking.com when traveling internationally to get a good idea of the hotels in the area and their reviews.
  • Outsite: Outsite is made for remote workers and digital nomads and they have locations around the world. I have loved my experience with them. It offers co-living spaces with strong Wi-Fi and great networking opportunities. It’s a step up from a hostel, with all locations offering you your own bedroom and bathroom. It’s very affordable and offers discounts on longer stays.
(My link will get you $50 off your $149 yearly membership)
  • VRBO: I like booking a VRBO when I’m staying anywhere for more than a week and want a place to myself. I recommend booking with VRBO especially if you are booking long stays because they’ll offer discounted rates unlike a hotel’s nightly rate.
  • Hostelworld: Ideal for budget travelers looking for safe lodging and a community of other travelers.
  • Trusted House Sitters: Stay for free in exchange for pet sitting/house sitting. It’s a win-win if you’re flexible with your destinations. Did I mention FREE accommodations all around the world!? This is great for working and traveling.

Car Rentals and Ground Transportation

  • AutoEurope: A reliable resource for renting cars abroad, often at a discount.
  • Discover Cars: Compares prices from multiple suppliers to ensure you get the best deal on car rentals.
  • Rail Europe: The easiest way to book rail tickets across Europe.

Tours and Activities

  • Both Get Your Guide and Viator are my go-to for local tours and experiences. They offer a wide range of day trips, local experiences, and activities around the globe, and include user reviews to help you choose.

Travel Convenience

  • Priority Pass: Escape the crowded airport terminals by accessing quiet and comfortable lounges worldwide.
  • Expedia: Handy for all your booking needs, from flights to hotels and car rentals, often with great last-minute deals.
  • Airalo: Easily access eSIMs on your phone for connectivity in over 190 countriesโ€”just what a remote worker needs! No more hunting down sim cards in the airport or wracking up a phone bill.

Finding Reliable Internet:

  • Workfrom: Helps you locate good work spots nearby with reliable internet.
  • Speedcheck: Use the Speedcheck app to test internet speeds on the go. Download the app on IOS | Google Play
  • Message Template I use to confirm internet speeds at a potential accommodation:
    • Hi [Host Name],

I’m planning to work remotely from your location and need to ensure that the internet speed meets my professional requirements. Could you please run an internet speed test and send me the following metrics?

      Mbps Download
      Mbps Upload
      MS Latency/Ping

      Thank you!

      [Your Name]
