Best Place to Stay in Paris at Christmas [2025]

When I was planning my stay in Paris at Christmas, I found it helpful to learn about the city’s arrondissements.
Paris is divided into 20 unique districts, each with its own unique style and history, and knowing a bit about them helped me pick the perfect spot that fit my travel style.
I ended up choosing the 4th arrondissement. It was away from the busy tourist crowds, but not too far from everything we wanted to do.
We were close to amazing places like Hotel de Ville and Notre Dame, and even though the Eiffel Tower was about an hour’s walk away, it was super easy to get there by public transport or taxi.
I’ll go through the best arrondissements to stay in during the holiday season, to help you choose which is right for you. I’ll also cover recommendations for hotels that can make your Parisian Christmas even more magical.
1st Arrondissement: Louvre / Palais-Royal
The 1st arrondissement is a bustling area, especially during the holiday season.
We walked through the 1st arrondissement almost every day, of course to visit the Louvre. This arrondissement is where you’ll find the Tuileries Garden Christmas Market.
The location is incredibly convenient, with lots of shopping and very walkable to all the major attractions.

2nd Arrondissement: Bourse
The 2nd arrondissement, the smallest district in Paris, is a lively area filled with shopping streets, trendy boutique shops, and fine dining restaurants.
One of the most iconic streets you’ll have to visit is Rue Montorgueil, which looks magical with its holiday decorations.
We spent time walking through the shopping passages, “Covered Arcades,” which were beautifully decorated for Christmas.

Set in a 17th-century building, this elegant hotel offers affordable rooms with balconies, just a short walk from the Louvre and Palais-Royal.
3rd and 4th Arrondissements: Le Marais
I stayed in Le Marais, located in the 3rd arrondissement, and loved it!
This area is away from the crowds and is a quieter neighborhood with lots of restaurants and trendy boutiques. It was nice coming back here in the evenings away from all the holiday crowds.
While it’s close to attractions like Notre Dame, Hôtel de Ville, and the Louvre, it is a bit farther from the Eiffel Tower and other main attractions.

5th Arrondissement: The Latin Quarter
Built by the Romans, the Latin Quarter is the oldest district in Paris.
Although we didn’t spend much time here, we did visit the iconic Shakespeare & Company, a must-see for any book lover.
This arrondissement is also home to Jardin des Plantes and the Rue Mouffetard market, which is filled with shops and cafes.
During the holiday season, the Jardin des Plantes often features festive lights and decorations, so make sure you take time to stroll through!

6th Arrondissement: Saint-Germain-des-Prés
Saint-Germain-des-Prés, in the 6th arrondissement, is famous for its timeless cafes, art galleries, and lively streets.
This area is known for spots like Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots.. The 6th arrondissement also features the Luxembourg Gardens, questionably the most beautiful gardens in Paris.
If you are staying close the Siene, it’s also very walkable to many of Paris’ main attractions.

7th Arrondissement: Eiffel Tower Area
We went down there a couple of times to visit the Eiffel Tower Christmas market and, of course, see the Eiffel Tower.
The first time we were in that area, we went on a dinner cruise on the Seine and saw the tower lit up in the evening—a great way to see it for the first time. If you don’t mind the crowds and want to be in all the action, stay in the 1st.
It’s another great spot if it’s your first time in Paris and you want to be close to all the popular spots especially if your there for a short time

8th Arrondissement: Champs-Élysées
The 8th arrondissement is a fantastic choice if you want to be near the heart of Paris’s Christmas festivities.
This area is famous for the Avenue des Champs-Elysées, which is beautifully decorated during the holiday season.
The Champs-Elysées is perfect for festive lights and window shopping at high-end stores like Louis Vuitton.
The 8th arrondissement is also home to several must visit spots, including the Petit Palais and the Grand Palais, where you can go ice skating during the winter months.
And of course, don’t miss the iconic Arc de Triomphe.

9th Arrondissement: Opéra / Grands Boulevards: 9th Arrondissement
The 9th arrondissement is known for its grand boulevards, shopping, and theaters and it’s also home to the famous Opéra Garnier.
The Grand Boulevards are lined with shops, cafes, and theaters.
During the holiday season, you’ll have to stop in at Galeries Lafayette and Printemps are beautifully decorated and perfect for holiday shopping.
We stopped at the famous department store to see the big tree at Galeries Lafayette.

Finding the right arrondissement in Paris for Christmas can make your holiday truly special.
Each area offers something different, whether it’s the iconic sights of the 1st arrondissement or the historic charm of the Latin Quarter.
I personally enjoyed the 4th arrondissement for its quieter neighborhood yet it was close to many of the attractions we wanted to visit.
The 7th arrondissement was a favorite too, especially with its stunning views of the Eiffel Tower and a lovely dinner cruise on the Seine.
Wherever you choose to stay, you really can’t go wrong in the City of Lights.
